RhinoJungle

The jungle where all Rhino animals live

Dear rhino and v-ray users,

I'm trying to render a rhino scene with v-ray but every time I get an error and it stops rendering. This is the message i get every time: Exception: Irradiance map thread.

I used a .visopt setting, downloaded from www.flyingarchitecture.com. (06.zip). I tried to render the scene with multiple .visopt setting from the same website but I still got the same error. When I try to render the scene at a smaller resolution it's just fine but when I render with a larger resolution the error keeps coming back.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Thanks In advanced,

- Frank

ps. I attached a screenshot of the error.

Hi, As I can see, you have only single-core computer. Because of this I think you have not enough RAM. [do you have 1, 2 or 4 Gigs?]

In downloaded VISOPT is Irradiance map setted to:
Min Rate -3 Max Rate 0
HSph. Subdivs 100 Samples 80

Try to lower the quality of your Irradiance map like this:
Min Rate -3 Max Rate -2
HSph. Subdivs 60 Samples 30

This should work, in general.... Try and let me know.

Hi Matus,

Thanks for the fast reply.

I don't know if I have a single-core or a dual-core computer (laptop). I use a Sony Vaio laptop with 4GB of RAM and have Windows Ultimate 64-Bit installed.

I'll try your advice. Thanks again, and I will let you know.

- Frank
I guess you have only single core, because I can see there only one rendering square in your screenshot :)
So how did you finish the project? did my advice work?
Hey Matus,

No it didn't work. The same "error" shows up. I do have a dual-core computer, and there are always 2 squares rendering (only one squares is showing in that image because the other one was done, but the other stays in the same place). Just to let you know :). I guess I'll try Randy's advice. Thanks anyways. If you have any other advice, please let me know. Thanks again.
Okay, Another try: Once I had the same problem. When Irradiance map's render square touched the area where was one specific wood texture, Renderer crashed. When I changed texture, it was working properly. Try to find out which texture causes problem and switch it.
Or, you can use that smaller resolution to get the irradiance map calculation only. Just check the "don't render final image" (under Global Switches - Indirect Illumination) tab, and save that calculation.

Load that Irradiance (and perhaps Light Cache) calculation, double your resolution, and do the rendering.

This might also be helpful, to save time.

Better if you also post this issue at asgvis forums.

Good Luck
Hi Randy,

Your way finally worked. Not the resolution size I wanted but still big enough. Thanks.

after downloading a chair from another site i had the same issue.  it was working fine prior to that so i knew it had to be that chair.  i deleted the chair and still got the same issue so i looked to see if it added materials to my library.  that was it. a couple materials were added with the path to the programs folder.  since xp, the materials have to be somewhere else because the security blocks them. i put all mine in my documents folder.
