RhinoJungle

The jungle where all Rhino animals live

Hi all,

I am trying to find out some 'rules' when it comes surface development and 3D geometry.

I would like to model in 3D and then develop the surface with minimal surface splts (see attached image).

Does anyone know of any books, materials, papers, etc, etc, that may explain how to achive minimal splitting?

Hector.

This shape is almost a rationalised curved fold. If you start from a flat pattern without splits, you can fold this dynamically in Rigid Origami Simulator by Tomohiro Tachi, or use his FreeformEngineering Origami to match the folds to a reference geometry. Go to www.curvedfolding.com for downloads and to see some more examples. Greg, RoboFold.

Rhino 3D Modeling (the one with the red Mustang on the cover) is bilingual (japanese+english). Luckily I could obtain it through my local Rhino vendor. This books demonstrates on how to develop clean and smooth surfaces utilizing Rhino (but the shown principles can be applied by any surface modeling software), what makes a clean surface and how to handle and manipulate it.
