The jungle where all Rhino animals live
I'm running RH-4/32 on an i7/64 system, in compatibility mode. On my -XP/32 laptop, the animation renders fine, albeit VERY slow... and I get great results. I've disabled ALL possible PLugins except Bongo-1. I even run the animation renders using VIEWPORT DISPLAY.
When I run the same model in RH-4-BO-1/32 in compatibility mode (4gb limit) about frame 225 all of the materials drop out. The surfaces are still there, and the assignments are still there, the image just drops out. I've set to MINIMUM acceptable antialias, and NOTHING else.
I've downloaded the RH-5/BO-2 set and expect good results, but those of you who understand work related requirements and "Beta" software realize this can't be the final solution UNTIL the finals roll out and I can duplicate them on our PC's here. This is a single setup I'm piloting the migration on, so solving this on the RH-4/BO-1 part of the platform for the immediate term is CRITICAL !
I solved this in my regular 32bit setup by limiting memory burdens from unnecessary startup programs. This solved it there, but doesn't seem to help here.
Any thoughts ?
Tks-
Charley.

Personally, I've found HUGE improvements with 64-bit Rhino / V-Ray when rendering...
I'd highly recommend upgrading to a 64-bit OS.
64 bit Software upgrade is probably in the near future. I'm working on it !
However, as mentioned in my post, that's not a viable solution to the problem at hand.
I'm running an i7-2600/3.4+, NVIDEA 550t/1gb, 16Gb RAM, 1 TB 7200 RPM h.d. Win-7/64-Pro.
As mentioned in my post, I'm not having the problem on a Win-Vista/32, 4gb RAM core-2duo 3.1Ghz under an NVIDEA-240 1GB. Its not likely a hardware problem.
There may be unanticipated capacity issues in a 32-bit session under -7/64-Pro even tho early press had -7 as lighter in a 4Gb space than Vista !
There may be RHINO issues that release internal data like the image attached to a surface even tho the links remain and the images are intact, because RHINO's marginal memory management has been a significant issue to deal with since version 3.0 and seems to remain. Upgrading to 64 bit systems sounds nice, and may lie in some people's future, but a corporate user who can't go outside that system and purchase a new 64 bit system when they want one doesn't have that bandaid. An individual without the budget to drop the kind of money I did for my new system is similarly constrained.
Mcneel's insistence that we look at lots of RAM in a new 64 bit system as the solution for poor memory management doesn't solve a problem that really shouldn't exist. I can't really fault them. They can't anticipate all of the ways we are going to use their product. That my models are routinely around 375 Mb with extensive animation steps is something they couldn't anticipate. BUT that they seem to run ok in a 32bit Vista system but not in a 32bit session on a 64bit system remains an unsolved problem.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer !
Charley.

Hope you find a solution soon!
