The jungle where all Rhino animals live
Hi there!
A beginner question:
I made a chair in Rhino/Tsplines and turned it back to Rhino before Vray rendering.
UV mapping seems to go all over and the texture mapping is (propably?) not so comprehensive.
The texture should go along the slightly curved leg(s) in all four sides.
How to do that?
Thank's for your help!
Johnny

It is not neccessary to convert TSplines to Rhino nurbs to render the object with V ray!;)

Once I tried that and got really strange angular surface. Don't know why?
Have to look at it carefully this time :)
The problem might also be, that my chair is made from one T-splines solid. But the real chair wouldn't be like that, of course. In the legs and the seat the texture would go in different directions.
In Rhino mode you can make the surface on each face separately - in whatever direction.
I just can't get the texture going along the surface. Like on the curved legs.
These are propably very basic things, but like I said - stil quite newbie... :)
Thank's, Boyan!

for correctly render the legs and the seat you must "divide" the solid,...you are right!;)
try this:
6. Use Mapping to adjust texture map direction. Select the model first, switch to Mapping dialog under Properties.
7. Make sure the Show advanced UI is checked.
8. Click on Add to create a new channel.
9. Pull down the projection menu and change it from surface to planar.
10. Click on Show Mapping to display mapping widget in the window.
Projection types and adjustment
The different types of projection are Surface, Planar, Box, Spherical, Cylindrical and Capped cylindrical. Rhino sets the default to Surface if there is no other projection assigned to the object and render the object according to its UV directions.
check my link again;)
In fact, that's what I tried in the first place.
One leg is based on four sides (six, if we count the upper and lower part). What you mentioned, would work on two sides but not on the other two.
...right?
Johnny
I ment a curved leg in previous comment.
Permalink Reply by Boyan Ceglar on November 30, 2011 at 6:14am If You look from upper (or lower) part of these legs, yes, some of the shapes are curvy.
But if You look from either side of them, they are exactly straight.
I mean, how would You map the back legs of this chair:

(Quick example I found in internet...).
Permalink Reply by Boyan Ceglar on December 5, 2011 at 6:11am Like You see, the mapping is going only in ONE direction - even the legs are slightly bending.
I mean, if I would make a chair where the wood would be bended, then the mapping should also be bended.
That was the original problem: how to bend the mapping if the shape is also bending? :)
Thank's, Boyan!

Permalink Reply by Boyan Ceglar on December 5, 2011 at 7:22am hm,.. now i understand your problem, but i dont see the reason to do that.
The reason is: this type of legs might actually often be bended!
So it's a matter of making it look as realistic as possible.
I just heard about the new UVEditor tool in both Rhino 5 and T-Splines 3.3. Maybe there's the answer... :)
