Help with organic modeling

I have been using traditional techniques for modeling product designs for years and have recently been interested in more organic techniques to surfacing. My experiments with pulling points, bending, tapering surfaces have yielded some interesting results but often not what I intended. My goal is to create a close approximation of my designs in much less time and without ever having to build a curve. This is a lofty goal I know and may not always be possible.
