FWIW, they support a few other formats, but alas, with little information on the supported format versions, like I commented in http://cad-3d.blogspot.com/2010/10/babel3d-free-online-model-translation.html

Importing mesh geometry inside ArchiCAD does not lead to satisfying results. You can use them as geometry props, but they come in facetted and without clean 2D drawing. It might be better to use e.g. SketchUp Pro and Layout and just place the meshes…

Learning Grasshopper (on a mac)

I have slowly began to learn Grasshopper (and Rhino with it). But as a Mac user, it is a bit cumbersome to launch Parallels and wait several minutes before the whole systems is operational and responsive. Once it it fully launched, it is workable. But I have a conceptual issue with Grasshopper. I am experienced with programming in code (C++, php, Java, VBA and a tiny bit of Ruby and Python). There are so many things that I can easily write in a one or two lines of code that take a lot of nodes…See More

Thank for sharing. More and more of Rhino and Grasshopper is getting into places where you would expect BIM tools to focus primarily.

Thanks for sharing. A wealth of educational material. The more I see, the less I need to create tutorials myself and just share references to others. That said, I did create some tutorials for other software and share them as well. But that way, as…

Have participated in a Grasshopper workshop, using Rhino4 running in XP 32-bit in Parallels. Now upgraded to Parallels 5 and Windows 7, but it is still slower than the real thing. Strangely, the whole Windows system is from times to time very…

Good news. Would it support the rendering of Grasshopper-generated geometry and still retain material assignments and texture mapping?

IFC and a generic modeling application? Not the most trivial combination. But interesting nonetheless.

As an ArchiCAD user, I haven't tried this yet, but I do have some experience with exporting ArchiCAD models to other applications. I had good results exporting to 3ds files, but I had to specify that I wanted the geometry organized according to…

I've been playing with Unity3D Game environment. This is using mono as a cross-platform library supporting C# on Mac OSX and Windows. I do have hopes that someday Grasshopper will use such an approach to be supported on the OSX version of…

Somehow new to Rhino

I am an avid follower of CAD and 3D software. As such, I have looked at Rhino since the free beta of 1.x.However, due to my work at architecture offices and academic research, I spend the next couple of years using AutoCAD, VectorWorks and ArchiCAD, together with Strata3D, 3D Studio VIZ, Artlantis and Cinema4D.However, after my participation in the Smartgeometry 2005 workshop in Lisbon, I started looking more at parametric design and generative modeling (with Bentley Generative Components). When…See More

I participated in a workshop, organized by TU/e (Eindhoven, Netherlands), where Rinus Roelofs introduced Grasshopper. I also used the opportunity to buy the "Working with Rhinoceros 4.0" by Michiel Van Der Kley.

I am evaluating to introduce Rhino to our students, maybe next year. Depends on how our curriculum evolves and in how far we prefer to stay on AutoCAD. But as there is a parametric design module, I'd rather use Grasshopper and Rhinoscript than the aging VBA from AutoCAD (and certainly not go back to AutoLisp).
