McNeel: openNURBS 5 C++ and .NET Tookits Released

On October 22nd, 2012, McNeel announced an upgrade to their openNURBS C++ and .NET toolkits with 'numero' 5. What does this entail? How about the fact that it will enable Rhino 4.0/5.0 CAD/CAM design users to transfer 3-D geometry between applications. Besides supporting all the newest features in Rhino 5.0, the toolkit includes:

The toolkit includes:

  • Documentation.
  • C++ and .NET source code libraries to read and write Rhino’s 5, 4, 3, and 2 3DM file format and read Rhino 1 files.
  • The current Microsoft, Apple and Gnu compilers for Windows,
  • Windows x64, Mac, and Linux are supported.
  • NURBS evaluation routines.
  • Quality assurance and revision control.
  • Free samples and technical support.

+++++++++++++++

If you didn't know before, openNURBS toolkits are free to download and use with a legal copy of Rhino. “We believe that the inability to accurately transfer geometry between applications is a primary factor stifling designers' use of 3-D.” says President of Robert McNeel & Associates, Bob McNeel. “There is no point in a designer finishing a 3-D model if it is just going to be rebuilt for product engineering, again for analysis, and yet again for tooling.”

You can read the full press release here at openNURBS.org. In addition, download the free openNURBS toolkit here at the openNURBS Initiative main page.
